John Ferdinand Family Dairy Dispersal – In The Books

Reading, KS: Saturday March 24th was a beautiful sunny day after a week of much appreciated rain. A full tent of  buyers liked what they saw and paid accordingly. 68 females sold for an average of $1678.31. The milk cows averaged $1859.90.  There were 25 head bringing over $2000. The sale breaks down as follows: 17 Registered Brown Swiss females ave. $1682.35 with the 10 milking cows and 3 bred heifers averaging $1855.77. 43 Grade Holsteins ave. $1693.60. The cows ave. was $1855.88. There were 8 Brown Swiss X Holsteins crosses that averaged $1587.50. The 4 very nice X-bred cows brought an ave. of $2050. Showing again, if there is a better cross than Swiss x Holstein you will have to prove it! The herd was on owner sampler test.

The high seller of the day at $2550 was Brown Swiss cow Lot 4 Ferdinand Prometheus April a 4yr bred in Jan. milking 72 lbs. She went to Richard & Loretta Lauck, Salem, SD. High selling grade Holstein at $2350 was Lot 47 a Templedale Guardian 2yr milking 108 lbs. She is headed to Hemme Dairy, Sweet Springs, MO. They also took home 2 more head at $2250 each.
